Stockholm Madness
Last weekend I was in Stockholm – the capital of Sweden. It took me 7 hours to get there, taking my time and pausing along the way and about 5 to drive back home. The purpose of my trip was to help my friend to move there but as much as I want to sound like a really good friend I must admit that my purpose of the trip was to try out the nightlife of Stockholm.
We arrived at Friday night around 2.30 a.m, so I was practically already asleep when my head hit the pillow since I had been up since 4.00 a.m…
Saturday though we had a lot of fun, doing some shopping, I was feeling a little bit like home again after leaving New York with much more people and movement. My friend invited her friends and we had a nice dinner and some (ok a lot) wine before we hit the clubs. The nightlife in Stockholm is really good and I was having a lot of fun, even though there is a lot of brats! Now my friends I am going to tell you one of the craziest thing you probably ever heard:
I never seen as many brats (people who have/or pretend they do have a lot of money. Their hair is in this perfect “back-slick”, they wear colorful collar shirts and move in flocks) in any other country as I have in Sweden. Don’t ask me why that is..
Anyway, to the point – these brats are also known for buying really expensive champagne bottles and then spray it out over their crowd of people just to show everybody that they can afford to do that. That recently became illegal to do at the clubs here because so many floors were damaged. But don’t think they will stop showing off just because of that, no, no.
Now what they do instead is called “vaskning”. I think I would translate that to “sinking” because what they do now is they buy an expensive bottle of champagne and they simply ask the bartender to pour it down the sink.. just like that without even tasting it. Then they buy a new bottle and right there they show their crowd how much money they’ve got.
This is real – it’s not a joke and people actually think it is a really cool and fun thing to do. (?) Isn’t this the most ridiculous thing you ever heard!? I was kind of embarrassed and was trying to mind my own business even though it is really hard not to stare because of this craziness..
Well, well.. for a while there I was starting to feel the vibes from the clubs in New York with all the people the diversity of both people and places to go to but I guess there is no place like New York – is there?
If you like to travel I recommend you to go to Stockholm. It is a wonderful city with a lot of old, well-preserved buildings, and since it’s right by the ocean it has a lot of beautiful little islands that we call “Stockholms skärgård” that you can go to. I personally love Stockholm when I choose to look past the “vaskning”
